A client from Frederick contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about a Police LIDAR and RADAR protection system for his new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette. After discussing where he drives, we suggested that the Escort Redline Ci 360C system provide the desired features and proper protection. With a plan in place, he dropped off this gorgeous black Vette so we could get started.
The first order of business was to discuss where to mount the display and control panel for the Escort custom-installed radar detection system. We agreed to mount the display in the upper left corner of the windshield and the controller below the start button. The controller is hidden but remains easily accessible.
Next, we removed the front and rear bumper covers to run wiring and mount the radar antennas and laser shifters. We used protection tape around the edges of the bumpers to ensure nothing would be scuffed or scratched as we removed them. All the different fasteners and clips were stored in dedicated bins to ensure we put everything back together perfectly when we were done.
We mounted the front radar antenna beside the driver’s side headlight to maximize its range. The rear antenna is mounted under the bumper crash bar beside the left-hand-side exhaust tips.
We installed five laser shifters on the vehicle to provide maximum sensitivity for police LIDAR. One sensor is mounted in the grille opening under each headlight, while a third is mounted in the center grille. We created a mounting bracket that attaches to the rear license plate to mount two additional shifters on the back of the vehicle. As always, all wiring for the radar antennas and laser shifters is routed along the same paths as the factory light and sensor wiring. Everything is secured to ensure there are no buzzes or rattles.
With the radar detection and LIDAR defense system installed, we turned our attention to the windows. The client requested we tint them to make the interior more comfortable on hot days. We installed 3M Ceramic IR film cut using our CNC plotter. This film offers exceptional IR and UV protection and looks great on a black vehicle.
With everything back together and the radar detector system tested, it was time for the client to pick up his vehicle. We explained how to get the most out of the police LIDAR defense features and how to care for the window tint. He was thrilled with the upgrades.
