Westminster Speed & Sound has been a leader in this category for well over a decade. From the beginning, we have sought out the best-performing, most reliable products to offer our clients.
Dash cameras have moved from being an option to a necessity in today’s world. Unfortunately, gone are the days when someone damages your vehicle and a note is left under your wiper with an apology and contact information. The good news is that a quality dash camera can record most incidents when they happen and prove guilt for the other party. They can also prove innocence when you were not in the wrong and the other party is not being truthful.
Let’s explore some important things to consider when buying a dash camera.

Professional Installation
First and foremost, you likely want to have the camera professionally installed. Better models want the lens properly calibrated or aimed for the best field of view. Placement in the vehicle is also important. Finally, you want the wiring hidden from view and proper connections made to integrate it into your complex modern electrical system.
Buy from the Experts
Second, you should highly consider where you will buy the unit. Can you speak to a human for advice on the model that best fits your unique needs? Is there a live person to give technical support after the sale? Assuming the camera uses an app to control it, can someone help you understand those features and demonstrate them to you? Finally, will they be there for you if something malfunctions?
Our team will be here for all of the above items and will sit in your vehicle with you after the install is completed. We’ll happily walk you through the camera’s operation and answer any questions, whether that day or six months later.
High Quality Solutions
Third, you want to make sure you buy a high-quality unit. The video will be useless if you can’t see everything clearly, or worse, it didn’t record because something went wrong. This is not a category to save money on, as it likely will come back to bite you.
So let’s explore the five different models offered by us:
Thinkware U3000
This is the flagship product from the long-standing leader in the dash camera category. You get a 4K front camera and a 2K rear camera. It has Super Night Vision 4.0, their best software for accurate nighttime viewing. It uses radar to sense motion near the cameras when the ignition is off, so it draws much less current and can record for much longer periods of time while the vehicle is sitting. It uses Sony lenses, the highest quality on the market. Control over the camera is done via the Thinkware app, which you download to your smartphone and is very easy to navigate. If you want the best, here it is.
Thinkware U1000 Plus
This model has a 4k resolution front camera and an HD quality rear camera, still with Sony lenses. It moves down to their Super Night Vision 3.0 software, the second-best you can get. It loses the radar functionality for parked recordings and instead uses a voltage monitor to shut off the camera before the vehicle battery gets too low to start the engine. It also uses the Thinkware app for control over the unit. This would be the 2nd best model on the market.
Thinkware Q850
The Q850 would be considered the best-valued camera system on the market. It has a 2 K resolution front camera and a full HD rear camera. It still has night vision technology but has moved down to Super Night Vision 1.0. It also uses an app for control and monitors battery voltage while recording when parked.
Thinkware TWQ200
Our final model from Thinkware is a front only camera system with full HD recording. It is designed for someone on a budget who still wants a reliable dash camera with forward-facing recording.
Drone XC
The Drone XC is a completely different animal from the above Thinkware models, as it has built-in cellular internet capability. What this means to you is the ability to see what is happening in front of or behind your vehicle using their app on your phone. It also stores either ½ or 1 gig of data in the cloud, giving you secure access to footage. So, if you have the need for live viewing of your camera system on occasion, this is the one for you. There is a data plan, but they are very inexpensive, and we will gladly go into details with you. This camera also gives you the option of adding GPS tracking to the vehicle by simply upgrading to a higher data plan, giving folks one more option to keep an eye on their prized possession.
