A client from Woodbridge brought his 2013 Boxster to Westminster Speed and Sound to have the sound system upgraded with a new radio and speakers. After seeing the dozens of Porsche audio system upgrades on our website, the owner knew we had the expertise to deliver a solution that would sound amazing while maintaining his roadster’s look and feel. After going through our consultation process, we put together a complete entertainment and safety package that would modernize the technology in the client’s vehicle.
Sony Radio Upgrade for Porsche Boxster
The first step was to remove the stock radio from the dash of the Porsche to make way for a Sony XAV-AX7000 multimedia receiver. Unlike every other radio of this style, the Sony includes a high-power four-channel amplifier that can produce up to 65 watts per channel into a 2-ohm load. This amp will be perfect to power the new speakers we’ll install. The radio also features a fantastic anti-glare display and an easy-to-use menu system, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
Next, we added an SXV300 SiriusXM Satellite radio tuner so the client can choose any genre of music he wants. Next, we installed a dual USB port extension in the car’s center console to easily connect a smartphone or USB memory stick. Finally, we finished the radio installation with the addition of a high-quality backup camera. Our technicians mounted the camera just above the rear license plate.
BLAM Speakers Deliver Big Sound
The last step was to upgrade the speakers in this Boxster. The client chose a set of BLAM Live-Series L200P components for the car. This set includes a pair of 8-inch woofers, a pair of 1-inch soft dome tweeters and a pair of passive crossover networks. First, our technicians created a set of composite mounting adapters to install the woofers in the stock locations in the doors. Then they mounted the tweeters in the stock grilles above the air vents at either end of the dash.
