Radar Detector and Laser Defense for Hanover Toyota Highlander

November 20, 2020 By staff Leave a Comment

Toyota RadarA Hanover client brought his 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid to Westminster Speed and Sound for a radar detector and laser defense solution. After talking to the client about where and how he drives, we demonstrated how an Escort MAX CI 360 would provide him with alerts about police radar guns and protect him from lidar measurement. He liked our proposed solution and gave us the go-ahead to schedule the installation appointment.

Premium Radar Protection Solution

The front radar receiver was mounted to the bumper.

The rear bumper cover was removed to provide for the radar receiver mounting.

The first step was to remove the front and rear bumper covers from the Highlander so our technicians could mount the radar receivers. These antennae use a pair of horns to improve sensitivity to X, K and Ka-band signals. Thanks to the large grille design, we were able to mount the front receiver below the aluminum support bar. The plastic bumper cover that conceals the rear antenna has almost no effect on radar signals.

Laser Defense Helps Prevent Speeding Tickets

Toyota Radar
Laser defusers were installed in the front grille vents.

Next, we installed four Escort ShifterMAX laser transceivers in the front grille. These units detect lidar signals and then transmit a light pattern that helps prevent a law enforcement officer from obtaining a speed reading. As you can see from the attached images, our team took care to aim each transceiver correctly to provide optimum long-range performance.

Control and System Display Installation

The controller was mounted just above the start button.

The system display was mounted at the top corner of the windshield.

The last step was to run all the cabling from the antennae and sensors to the Escort control module in the vehicle. We always use the same paths that the vehicle manufacturer does to route and secure our wiring. This method ensures that everything is well-protected. We added a Wavtech IRAD to the primary power connection to ensure that the system continues to function when the vehicle goes through the stop-start process.

The Escort radar and laser system’s display is mounted in the windshield’s upper left corner on a custom ABS plastic bracket. This location is easy to see when the client needs information, but out of the way when driving.

We mounted the control panel for the system to the right of the center console, just above the vehicle start button. The driver can easily access the controls when it’s time to cancel the laser shifter signal or make adjustments to the system.

System Training and Customer Service

Once we had the entire Escort radar detector and laser defense system installed into this Toyota Highlander, we tested the system with our radar and lidar guns to ensure proper functionality. When the client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound, a member of our team went through the system’s operation and explained the Jam-to-Kill process that helps prevent him from getting a ticket. If you’re shopping for a speeding ticket prevention solution, drop by our store, give us a call or send us an e-mail using our contact page. We’d be honored to help.
