The solution was to create a step that sits up close to the rocker panel when not in use, then extends down as soon as you open a door. AMP Research developed the first, and best, automatic electric-powered running board solution. This is the PowerStep.
Installation and Functionality
AMP Research steps are designed to bolt to existing mounting locations and fasteners under your truck. We do not need to drill new holes or cut any part of the vehicle. Your warranty will remain unaffected; the steps can be removed easily if you sell your truck or the lease ends.
The steps will extend down in less than a second, and retract three seconds after you close the door. Once retracted, you have excellent ground clearance for off-road adventures or plowing through deep snow drifts. The step sits tightly against the vehicle to reduce aerodynamic drag.
AMP Research includes low-profile LED lighting with all their kits that illuminates the steps and the ground beneath it. This makes them safe to use at night. They are also available for many applications in an XL version. This provides an additional 3-inches of drop for lifted trucks. An Xtreme version is available with dual motors for work-truck applications.

PowerSteps are constructed from high-strength die-cast aluminum alloy components that feature an anodized and PTFE coating for maximum corrosion resistance. The step platform is a durable aluminum extrusion with integrated ridges to provide excellent traction. AMP Research offers several stainless-steel trim kits for those that want to personalize their installation. They are designed and manufactured in America, and are backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile warranty.
