A client from Baltimore came to Westminster Speed and Sound, looking to add several upgrades to his 2012 Honda Pilot. When he arrived, one of our staff looked over the vehicle with him and listened as he explained his goals for the upgrades. We spent significant time on going over the different categories he was interested in and then we worked up a detailed proposal that he liked. At that point, we set a time to begin working on the vehicle.
For this Pilot, the client wanted to keep the factory radio installed, so all of our upgrades had to work easily with the factory equipment still in the vehicle. We started by adding Bluetooth hands-free capability, installing a Parrot CK3000 module with the controller going into an easily accessible spot directly below the driver’s side air vent.
We installed a SiriusXM Onyx Plus unit on a custom mount at the driver’s side A-pillar, making it easy to control the stations the driver wants to hear. We neatly hid all the wiring and hardwired it into the vehicle.
Our team replaced the existing rearview mirror with an auto-dimming model from Gentex that included an embedded LCD monitor to display the image from the backup camera whenever the Pilot is placed in reverse. We mounted the camera itself on top of the rear license plate, using a hidden bracket that is held in place by the tag bolts.
The last step in these upgrades was improving the sound quality of the stereo system. To do so, we installed a set of JL Audio C3-650 component speakers in the factory locations up front. We used HushMat sound-damping material around the door woofer to eliminate any vibration that may occur when adding a high-performance speaker.
Once all the equipment was installed and thoroughly tested, we delivered the Honda to the client. When he arrived, our staff went out to the vehicle to go over the operation of all the new equipment in detail. He was impressed with the caliber of our installation work and knew he was going to enjoy all the upgrades.
