A client from Crofton recently contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about modernizing the entertainment and communication technology in his 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S. He wanted to be able to use the voice recognition features of his smartphone and add SiriusXM Satellite radio playback.
Sony Multimedia Radio Upgrades Technology
Given that this 911 Turbo S is a Cabriolet, we suggested the Sony XAV-AX7000 multimedia receiver as the perfect upgrade. The 6.95-inch touchscreen on this radio is brighter than most models on the market and includes a premium anti-glare coating that makes it easier to see when the roof is down.
The radio also includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. These technologies allow the client to request entertainment sources, send text messages or make phone calls using voice commands so the client can keep his eyes on the road while driving.
The stock source unit in the 911 sends audio signals to a Bose amplifier and speakers. We used an interface that allows the Sony radio to function flawlessly with the Bose components. The trim piece around the radio is a genuine Porsche part, so the color, fit and finish are perfect — the new radio looks like it came with the vehicle right from Stuttgart, Germany.
We added a SiriusXM SXV300V1 satellite radio tuner to the Sony radio. The vehicle has a perfect location to mount the antenna to capture satellite signals while traveling almost anywhere in the country.
The last step was to install a dual USB port in the center console. This port connects to the rear of the Sony radio so the client can charge and use his smartphone and connect a USB flash drive at the same time to play MP3, WMA or FLAC format audio files.
