A client from Owings Mills recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to ask about protecting his new 2025 Honda Civic Type R with a radar detector and laser defense system. With more than 300 horsepower on tap, it doesn’t take long for this beast to pick up speed. The client wanted as much warning as possible to prevent him from getting a ticket, should he be on the loud pedal for a bit too long.
After inspecting the vehicle, we suggested a custom-installed solution based around the Escort Redline CI 360c system. The client was impressed with our plan and gave us the go-ahead to schedule the installation.
Custom-Installed Honda Civic Radar Detector Solution
The Escort Redline CI 360c radar detector system includes five laser shifters, a pair of radar receivers, a control panel, a display, a control module and all the wiring our team needs to complete the installation. We started the project by removing the front and rear bumper covers so we could mount the radar receivers and run wiring for the laser shifters. We always route wiring along the same route as the factory wire harness. This ensures everything is as protected as possible from heat and moving parts.
Since police radar signals will pass through plastics, we were able to conceal the antennas behind the bumper covers. As you can see in the photos, each antenna is bolted directly to the car’s body to ensure they are secure.

Escort Laser Shifter System
The next step was to mount the laser shifters included in the kit. The placement and adjustment of each shifter is crucial to the system’s performance, so we agonize over getting it right. The client mandated that we not drill holes in the body, so we had to get creative. The outer front shifters are mounted in openings on either side of the main grille in the lower valence. The all-important center unit is mounted to a piece of acrylic plastic that we cut to extend the front license plate mount. The shifter is just below the tag, and we engraved the Type R logo for an added touch of style.
We created custom mounting pods for the rear shifters so they could be mounted under the trunk lip. The pods are 3D printed and finished in UV-resistant black paint that helps conceal them.
As with all of our radar detector and laser defense installations, we added connectors to the wiring where it transfers from the bumper covers to the chassis. The technician can unplug the laser shifters if the covers need to be removed for service.
Control Panel and Display Integration
The next step was to mount the control panel and the display. Our fabrication team went to work on the steering wheel column cover to make a home for the display. The custom pod puts the display right in front of the driver, but doesn’t block any information from the dash.
The control panel is in the center console, just below the armrest. The driver can reach down and access the buttons to change settings or cancel the shifter operation intuitively and without looking.

Baltimore’s Radar and Laser Defense Experts
Once the system was installed and each laser shifter was aligned, we took the car for a test drive. We’ve invested in police-grade radar and laser speed guns to ensure the Escort does what it’s supposed to do. We never leave anything to chance when providing our clients with the best possible value and performance.
When the client came to pick up the vehicle, a member of our team walked him through how the system works and how to use the laser shifter reliably. This training is crucial to getting the most value and performance possible. He was thrilled with the installation and genuinely appreciated the training session.
