Last fall, we participated in the Sony Mobile ES demo car competition. It happened in the few months leading up to the holiday season, so our available time was short. Over the summer, we completely rebuilt the trunk to showcase the equipment along with our custom installation capabilities. Here is a recap of the interior side of this audio system.
The front speakers are the Sony Mobile ES XS-162ES 6.5″ components installed in the factory locations up front. In the rear are Sony Mobile ES XS-160ES 6.5″ coaxes. We interfaced with the stock Honda entertainment system, using a Helix DSP.3S 8-channel digital signal processor. All the doors and trunk were completely sound-damped to eliminate rattling, reduce road noise, and improve sound quality.
In the trunk, our team made a pair of opposing fiberglass enclosures, each holding two Sony Mobile ES XS-W104ES 10″ subwoofers. Each pair of subs is powered by their XM-1ES 1,000-watt mono amplifier, providing 2,000 watts in total on the subwoofers. A pair of XM-4ES four-channel amplifiers powers the interior speakers, sending 100 watts to each of them.
We made a custom amp rack to go inside the spare tire well with the Sony logo laser engraved in it. We also created custom-pressed metal grilles. Multi-color LED lighting adds a classy touch whenever you show off the amp rack. A trim cover completely hides the amp rack, giving you significant trunk space whenever needed.
We hid three AGM batteries under the amp rack and installed a replacement Interstate AGM battery in the stock location in the engine compartment.
In the end, this 2021 Honda Accord not only looked beautiful, it sounded incredible!
