A client from Columbia contacted our Porsche upgrade experts here at Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about a Cayman S radar detector and laser defense system. We’ve worked on several Caymans of this generation and knew right away that one of the Escort Redline Ci 360 systems was the best answer. After explaining the features and how we’d integrate the system into his vehicle, the client gave us the go-ahead to schedule the project.
Radar Antenna Installation
The first order of business was to remove the front and rear bumper covers so we could run the wiring for the police laser shifters and mount the radar antennas. Radar signals can pass through the plastic bumpers with nearly no degradation in signal strength. As such, we mounted the M14 DSP-based radar antennas to the front and rear bumper supports to ensure they’d be secure.

Custom Laser Shifter Mounting Solutions
The next step was to choose locations for the five VX Laser Shifters included with the system. We started by creating a mount extension for the front license plate that would locate the shifter just below. Not only did we cut out a perfect opening in the plate for the shifter, but we also added the Cayman logo for a little style.
The outer front shifters are housed in custom-created 3D-printed pods. The pods are mounted in the left and right front air ducts and feature IR-transparent acrylic front covers for a tidy appearance.
The rear shifters are mounted in another 3D-printed pod above the license plate. Police target license plates, especially on the rear of the Cayman, because the body is so curved. The twin shifters in this location provide maximum protection.
All the wiring for the shifters is secured to the back side of the bumper covers. We included a service disconnect point in case either cover needs to be removed. The rear cover comes off regularly for maintenance and service, so the connectors simplify the technician’s task.
Custom Control and Display Integration
Inside the Porsche, our team again turned to our 3D printer to create a pod for the Redline Ci 360’s four-color OLED display. The pod is integrated into the top of the steering column to make it instantly visible.
The last step in terms of visible components was to mount the control panel in the center console storage tray. We used our CNC laser to cut an acrylic trim panel for the controller so it looked right at home.
We finished the installation by mounting the system controller under the dash and routing all the wiring to the display, controller, shifters and antennas along factory wire paths. This method ensures we are away from moving parts, heat sources and potential electrical noise issues. While running the power wires to the fuse box, we added a Wavtech iRad intelligent voltage stabilizer to ensure the system had a reliable ignition signal.
Maryland’s Porsche Radar Detector Experts
With everything in place and configured, we tested and confirmed the system’s performance using our police-issue radar and LIDAR guns. This ensures everything will work as planned if and when the client needs it.
The client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up the vehicle. A team member explained how to use the laser defense system for the best protection against speeding tickets. The client was thrilled with his investment! If you are shopping for a ticket prevention system for your car, truck or SUV, we invite you to talk to the team here at WSS. If you can’t get to the store during regular business hours, give us a call or use our contact form to send us an email.
