Can A Remote Car Starter Be Installed Safely On A Manual Transmission?

September 29, 2013 By staff

Remote starter manual transmissionYES IT CAN!  Several remote car starter manufacturers make systems that can be installed safely on a manual transmission vehicle.  But It MUST be installed properly!  Read on.

Here is How We Do It At WSS Westminster Speed and Sound

First you pull into a parking spot and put the vehicle in neutral.   While you still have your foot on the brake pedal, you engage the parking brake. You then wait about 5 seconds. Our remote starter senses you engaging the sequence with the brake pedal and the parking brake and it turns itself on. Now when you turn off the ignition the vehicle will stay running. You get out of the vehicle. Once the last door is closed and you press the lock button on the remote control, the engine shuts off and the doors lock. As long as no one opens the doors the remote car starter will allow you to remote start the vehicle.  This sequence is necessary to “prove” to the remote car starter that your manual transmission vehicle has been left in neutral. Going through this simple set of steps allows you to have a safe method of starting your vehicle by remote control.

At first glance, it seems like a lot to remember, but it is really very simple.  Our clients report back to us that this process adds little time to exiting the vehicle and becomes second nature in a few days.  When it comes to remote starting a manual transmission vehicle, this is a very safe and secure method.  At the end of the day, our client’s safety is the most important part of what we do.  When installed properly by a trained technician, it has been our experience that this is the very safest approach to remote starting a stick shift vehicle.

Words of Caution For Remote Car Starters on Manual Transmission Vehicles

We firmly believe that this is a safe and secure approach to installing a remote starter on a stick shift… With one GIANT warning:

IT MUST BE INSTALLED BY A TRAINED, SKILLED PROFESSIONAL. PERIOD.

No advice in this post will make up for a poor installation.  Take your time and select the right facility when you are shopping for a remote car starter on your manual transmission vehicle.  This is NOT a case where you want to base your decision on “who is the lowest bidder.”  Doing these installs requires time, skill and training.  Installers providing the cheapest price are not likely to take their time, have the required skills or have gone through all the needed training.

We believe that WSS Westminster Speed and Sound is the right choice for your manual transmission remote car starter installation.  Please stop in and let us show you around.  You will find that the skill and level of service that we offer is worth the drive from anywhere.
