Premium Radar Detector Solution for Baltimore Lexus RC350

April 7, 2021 By staff Leave a Comment

Lexus RadarA client from Baltimore contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about a radar detector solution to protect his 2018 Lexus RC350. After talking with the client about where and how he drives, we suggested a custom-installed solution that includes a lidar defense system. The client agreed to our proposal, and we scheduled an appointment to finish the final system design and complete the installation.

Escort MAX Ci Radar Detector

It may look scary, but our team excels at bumper cover removal!

Custom metal brackets were bent for the rear radar mounting.

The front radar receiver was securely mounted to the bumper frame.

With the rear bumper cover installed, the car looks completely stock.

First, we removed the front and rear bumper covers to mount the radar antennae from the Escort MAX Ci 360 system. The front receiver is located just to the right of the center under the aluminum bumper support. The rear unit is centered on the back of the vehicle. The bumper cover conceals the rear receiver as the high-frequency radar signals can pass through the plastic with barely any signal strength loss.

Laser Defense System Installation

The front of the RC350 is protected by four laser defusers.

The small laser units are barely visible on the front of the car.

The next step was to install the four ShifterMax laser transceivers on the front of the Lexus. The client wanted as much forward-facing protection as possible. Our team reinstalled the front bumper cover and mounted two transceivers just inside of the fog lights in the lower part of the grille and the second set at the top of the grille beside the headlights.

Intuitive Control and Display Mounting

Lexus Radar
Our technicians tucked the display up in the corner of the windshield.

The system controller was mounted within easy reach of the client.

The MAX Ci 360 includes a small six-button control panel that the client can use to make system adjustments or to cancel the ShifterMax operation once he’s confirmed the vehicle is at a legal speed after detecting a lidar signal. We mounted the control just below the radio volume control in the center console to be easily accessible while driving.

The OLED display from the system provides information about the type of radar or lidar signal that the system detects and its direction and strength. We installed this compact display at the top-left corner of the windshield.

System Testing Ensures Reliable Performance

When the owner returned to our shop, we explained how we installed each component of the radar system on his Lexus RC350. We also showed him how the system responds to our radar and lidar guns so he’d be familiar with the sounds and messages from the system. The client was very happy with the installation and excited to get out on the road to test it out. If you are interested in a custom installed radar detector for your car or truck, drop by Westminster Speed and Sound and talk to one of our Product Specialists. We’d be happy to design a custom solution for your vehicle and driving habits. If you can’t visit our store, please give us a call or send our team an e-mail using our online contact form.
