Custom Radar and Laser Defense for Kia EV6 Sedan

July 22, 2022 By mark Leave a Comment

The owner of this 2022 Kia EV6 was referred to Westminster Speed and Sound by the folks at Escort Radar Detectors. The vehicle owner was after an undetectable radar detector and laser defense system to protect the vehicle from speed traps. After talking with the client about how and where he drives, we designed a solution around the impressive Escort Max CI 360.

Laser Shifter Placement Delivers Reliable Performance

Kia Radar
Our team of experts securely mounted the front radar receiver just below the aluminum front bumper reinforcement bar.
Kia Radar
All the wiring for these radar receivers were routed along the same pathways as the stock harnessing for safety and security.
Kia Radar
The four laser shifter sensors are spaced evenly across the front of the vehicle.
Kia Radar
These sensors are high enough off of the ground, and carefully aimed and leveled, to minimize false alarms.
Kia Radar
Our team took great care in mounting the sensors on the front of the vehicle.
Kia Radar
The radar receiver can detect signals through the plastic bumper covers, so concealing it behind the bumper cover turned out to be a great location.

After inspecting the vehicle, we decided that having four laser shifters on the front of the Kia was the best option. Our team carefully removed the front bumper cover and routed the wiring safely from each of the ShifterMax sensors back to the main controller for the MAX CI 360 inside the cabin.

The sensors are spaced evenly across the front of the vehicle and are high enough off the ground to minimize false alarms. The last step was to aim and level each sensor to provide the best coverage and range performance possible.

We mounted the front radar receiver just below the aluminum front bumper reinforcement bar. This sensor can detect signals through the plastic bumper cover, so this concealed location functions fabulously.

The rear radar receiver is mounted in a similar fashion behind the rear bumper cover. All the wiring is routed along the same pathways as the stock harnessing to ensure that it’s safe and secure.

Radar Detector Display and Control Panel

Kia Radar
We located the system’s display panel in the upper left corner of the windshield, easily viewable by the driver.
Kia Radar
Our technicians neatly mounted the control panel underneath the entertainment system controls at the base of the dash for stealth purposes.

With everything routed to the interior, our team of technicians set to work mounting the control panel and the display. We located the display in the upper left corner of the windshield. This location doesn’t detract from the appearance of the interior yet is easy to see when an alert is provided. It’s also concealed by the A-pillar should anyone look into the car from the outside. The control panel for the MAX CI 360 is mounted under the entertainment system controls at the base of the dash. Again, a stealth location was top of mind, but easy access was also a prime consideration.

Baltimore’s Best Radar Detector Solutions

After roughly three days of work, a thorough examination with our police radar and laser guns, and a test drive, we had this Kia EV6 and its new radar system ready to return to the client. When the vehicle owner returned to Westminster Speed and Sound, a member of our team demonstrated how to use the system effectively to prevent speeding tickets. The client was very happy with the work and excited to get on the road to test it out.
