A local client recently contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about having an audio system installed on his 2019 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 side-by-side. We’ve worked with this client before and had a good idea of what he wanted from the audio system. After inspecting the vehicle, we proposed a sound system that would be able to withstand the rigors of off-roading while delivering great music. The client liked the plan and went ahead and scheduled an installation appointment.
JL Audio Enclosed Speaker Solution
The system started with our team installing a set of JL Audio M3-650VEX-MB-S-GM VEX-Series enclosed speakers on the roll bar. These speakers use a 6.5-inch M3-Series coaxial speaker that is optimized to deliver good midbass output, even in these small enclosures. We attached the speakers to the upper portion of the roll cage using JL’s mounting brackets. JL has 21 pipe-mounting solutions or diameters from 0.75 to 3.25 inches. As you can see, we concealed the wiring running to the speakers for a clean and tidy look.
Weather-Resistant Marine Amplifier
The system is powered by a JL Audio MX280/4 four-channel amplifier. The amp is mounted in the storage compartment underneath the front seat. Each pair of channels on the amp is bridged to drive one of the VEX enclosures with up to 140 watts of power.
The wiring for the amp is protected with split-loom and heat-shrink tubing. We added a JL Audio XD-MFBW-MAXI water-resistant fuse holder near the battery to provide protection to the power wire running to the amplifier.
Bluetooth Source Unit for Great Sound
A JL Audio MBT-CRX Bluetooth controller is mounted in the dash of the Pioneer. The client can connect his smartphone to the controller and play music files stored on the phone or stream entertainment from an online service like Pandora, Tidal or iHeartRadio.
The buttons on the controller send commands back to the phone to adjust the volume and change what track is playing. Of course, the MBT-CRX is weatherproof so that it can handle getting wet or muddy.
Honda Pioneer 1000-5 Audio System
With the equipment installed, our team finished the installation by configuring the crossover and level controls on the amplifier to ensure the system would play loudly without any distortion or clipping. The client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to check out the audio system on his Honda Pioneer 1000-5. He was thrilled with the way it looked and sounded.
