A client from Taneytown recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to ask about a dash camera and a radar detector solution. The client wanted the speeding ticket prevention solution to be integrated neatly into the vehicle rather than hung from the rearview mirror. After seeing how the Escort Redline CI360 worked, they knew it was the perfect solution. Combined with a Thinkware U3000 PRO, this Expedition is now the ultimate road-ready machine.
Escort Radar Detector Integration
A custom-installed radar detector offers a key benefit over transportable units in that it includes laser shifters to prevent LIDAR guns from getting a vehicle speed reading. In this Ford Expedition, we mounted three shifters on the front of the truck and two out back. The shifters are mounted in our custom-designed 3D-printed pods. The pods include IR-transparent acrylic front panels, so they look neat and tidy once installed. We mounted the three front shifters in the air opening at the top of the front bumper. The two shifters in the rear are mounted above the license plate. The shape of the shifter pods coincidentally mimics that of the factory-installed rearview camera pod.
The Redline CI360 kit also includes a pair of radar receivers. The receivers are mounted behind the plastic bumper covers and secured to the bumper support bracket to ensure stability. All the wiring for the radar antennas and the shifters is routed along the same paths as the factory harnessing to keep things away from sources of heat and electrical noise. We label all the connections in case the bumpers have to be removed for servicing at the car dealership.

Radar Detector Display and Control
Our team created a custom pod in the overhead console for the OLED display that comes with the Escort kit. The location is right on the edge of the driver’s field of vision, so it’s easy to see while driving. The control panel is mounted to the dashboard just to the right of the steering column. Easy access to the controls is crucial in beating police LIDAR.
Thinkware Dash Camera
While we were running wiring up to the overhead console, we ran the power cable for a Thinkware U3000 PRO dash camera system. This state-of-the-art solution records in 4K, and the rear camera records in 2K. The client chose a 256 GB memory card for the system to achieve the maximum recording length before old content is overwritten.
Maryland’s Best Radar Detector Installations
It took us a few days to complete the integration of the dash camera and radar detector, but the results are well worth the time and effort. Everything looks like it belongs on the vehicle and is easy to use. We tested the radar detector and laser shifters before the client picked up the car using our police speed measurement guns. This ensures the system functions flawlessly.
