A client from Reisterstown stopped by Westminster Speed and Sound in search of a solution for the blown factory subwoofer in her 2022 Ford Bronco. We’ve seen this several times, and while we have many subwoofer replacement options, we opted to demonstrate how new speakers, amplification, and a premium subwoofer could really bring the system to life. She loved the demo and gave us the go-ahead to do a complete system.
Ford Bronco Speaker Upgrade
The first order of business was to upgrade all the speakers in the Bronco. We replaced the woofers in the kick panels and the midrange speakers on the dash with a set of BLAM SR165S 6.5-inch component speakers. We cut custom mounting adapters for the dash using our CNC laser. For rear speakers, we replaced the midrange drivers with a set of two-way 4-inch coaxial drivers from Helix. The mounting tabs on these speakers are removable, which makes them a perfect drop-in fit for the D-pillar locations.
The icing on the cake was a Stinger subwoofer enclosure that’s designed specifically for the Bronco. The enclosure attaches to the tailgate and features a 12-inch AudioControl subwoofer. The tailgate closes easily with the sub in place, and the shallow design doesn’t take up much space in the cargo area.

Wavtech System Amplifier
The Bronco can be challenging to work with in terms of extracting a clean, noise-free audio signal from the factory-installed source unit. We used a pair of Helix AAC3 interfaces to handle the Class-SB factory amplifier signal. The output of the interfaces feeds a five-channel Wavtech LINK1000.5 amplifier. The amp rack is made of expanded PVC. We cut it with our CNC laser using a pattern we created that fits the Bronco perfectly and uses the factory bolt locations. This amp can deliver more than 75 watts of power per channel to the front and rear speakers, and an impressive 500 watts to the subwoofer.
We added a LinkRC remote level control to the amp so the owner can fine-tune the bass level to match her mood or the music that she’s playing. The remote is mounted under the climate controls in front of the shifter.
Baltimore’s Car Audio Upgrade Experts
It took us a little under two days to complete this Bronco stereo upgrade, including setting the line-output converters and fine-tuning the amplifier’s extensive controls. The client climbed in for a listen upon her return and was thrilled with the way the system sounds. The bass can easily swing from full and rich to boomy and fun with just a twist of the knob.
If the stereo in your SUV is having problems, or you want more output and better bass response, drop into Westminster Speed and Sound and speak to a member of our award-winning team. We’d be honored to design an upgrade solution that will sound amazing. Give us a call or complete our quote request form if you can’t get to the store.
