A client from Reisterstown, Maryland, came to WSS Westminster Speed & Sound looking for a Jeep Wrangler security system in their 2015 Unlimited. Now, this is no ordinary Jeep. While there are many Jeeps on the road that are fixed up really well, this one is in a league of its own.
This Extraordinary Jeep Required An Extraordinary Installation Facility
This Jeep was built by American Expedition Vehicles, and the complete drivetrain and suspension have been reworked. It is now powered by a 6.4 liter SRT Hemi engine that puts out 470 horsepower and is backed by a custom six-speed manual transmission. Everything from the axles to the suspension has been modified to make this Jeep look as if it came from the factory this way. Needless to say, the client was looking for a shop that he could trust to work on this vehicle.
The instant he pulled into our parking lot, we knew he had something special. After going over the vehicle with him and understanding his goals for the vehicle, we worked on a game plan for him. We spoke to AEV and figured out that we would need to assume all aspects of our work would be a custom install – we couldn’t rely on our normal data module solutions to allow the brain to communicate with the factory computer.
Compustar Pro Products Make Up This Jeep Wrangler Security System
Whenever you own a vehicle that is truly special, you want to do everything you can to ensure it stays in your possession, so, for this vehicle, we used a series of products from Compustar. We installed a drone module in the vehicle to allow the client to locate and track it anywhere he has a computer or a smartphone. He can also set up alerts in case the vehicle is moved beyond certain times of the day or outside a defined geographical area.
We secured the hood, doors and tailgate, and installed a starter kill circuit that activates whenever the system goes live.
Digital Tilt And Motion Sensor Secure Against Vehicle Theft
One of our favorite products is the digital tilt-and-motion sensor. It is a sophisticated sensor that can tell the difference between a windy day and a tow truck raising the vehicle to steal it. If the vehicle is moved as little as 3 inches, the system will trigger and the owner will get a notification to his iPhone or Android phone. Westminster Speed & Sound also equipped the system with Compustar’s top-of-the-line two-way remote control. It has the longest range on the market and allows him to see real-time status on the Jeep. The remote can communicate with the truck, and the truck communicates back to the Jeep.

When it came time to do the work on the vehicle, our concerns were verified for the installation. As the factory computer was flashed for this special drivetrain, our modules would not communicate with the computer. That is not a problem for us, since we have been installing alarm systems since 1990, way before data modules existed. Our technicians did this installation the same way we would have done it back then and gave the client a high-quality, neat installation that will last for years and years.
