Real bass in a 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab

October 29, 2011 By mark

A local customer from the Westminster MD area came to us recently with a 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab wanting to upgrade his sound system. He had taken the vehicle to another shop and was very disappointed with the sound quality of the stereo that they had achieved. He knew of our reputation and came to us for advice. We looked over what had been done and realized that the subwoofer enclosure they had made for him was much too small for the subwoofers they had used, and it was also leaking. This gave him very poor low-end extension, meaning his low bass notes lacked any authority. They were weak and shallow-sounding. He had the factory installed navigation and upgraded speaker system. What he wanted was real good sounding bass. We made some suggestions which he liked and we got to work.

We started by choosing a JL Audio Stealthbox that fits under the rear seat on the passenger side. It holds a 10W3 subwoofer and sounds terrific. We have sold over a dozen of this exact enclosure and the sound quality and output is wonderful. You can see from our pictures below how well the Stealthbox integrates into the truck. We chose a JL Audio HD750/1 amplifier to power the subwoofer. This amplifier is extremely compact and as you can see from the pictures fit nicely into a small cubby hole under the rear seat on the driver’s side. This amplifier has several patented technologies that allow it to be one of the best sounding amplifiers on the market while having a footprint only slightly larger than an average book. The amplifier also has a bass level control knob that we installed in a convenient location in the front of the vehicle allowing the customer complete control of how much bass is added into his music. We interfaced the amplifier to the factory Dodge stereo system using a powered integration device much like an AudioControl LC2i.

All in all, we felt that we had accomplished the mission set before us. The customer got great sounding bass, he got to keep all of the integrity of his truck, and we got a satisfied customer. If you own a 2009-2012 Dodge Ram Quad Cab or Crew Cab this upgrade is an available option for you.
