A repeat client from Silver Spring recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to inquire about installing a radar detector and laser shifter system in his new 2025 GMC Yukon XL Denali. The client wanted the display and controller for the Escort Redline Ci 360 in the same location as his previous vehicle. He also wanted a dashcam with front and rear cameras installed. Here’s a look of the work we performed.
Yukon Radar Detector Installation
The first step in installing the Redline Ci 360 system was to remove the front bumper cover and grille. While off, our team created acrylic plastic inserts with laser-cut openings for the shifter units. The inserts are bonded to the grille, and all the wiring is routed safely and securely to a common connection point. We mounted the dual-antenna radar receiver to the steel bumper support before putting everything back together.
Out back, we printed a set of our laser shifter mounting pods. These pods mount near the license plate and feature IR-transparent acrylic lenses on top for a tidy installation. We mounted the rear radar receiver to the bumper support from underneath the vehicle.
The display for the Escort system is mounted in the top left corner of the windshield in a small, 3D-printed pod. The control panel is secured just to the right of the steering column. The client is used to these locations, so he wanted the same for his new SUV.
We finished the installation by testing the system’s performance using our police laser and radar guns. Proper alignment of each laser shifter is crucial for achieving long-range performance. While we are fanatical about adjustment, we always test to confirm our efforts.
Thinkware U3000 Dash Camera
While we were under the dashboard integrating the wiring for the radar detector system, we connected the hardwire kit for a Thinkware U3000 dash camera system. The main camera was installed on the windshield, with the image sensor below the windshield tint strip. This ensures a clear image under all lighting conditions, both during the day and at night. The rear camera wiring is completely hidden, including where it enters the tailgate.
Baltimore’s Vehicle Enhancement Experts
With the radar detector and laser shifter installed and tested, and the dashcam configured, it was time to return this classy SUV to the owner. We reviewed how to use both systems to ensure they would provide the protection and coverage he expected. He was thrilled with the workmanship and attention to detail.
