A Baltimore client recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to discuss upgrading their vehicle with a radar detector and laser defense system. While the big Range Rover isn’t as spirited as a Corvette or Porsche, it still has enough power to get its owner into trouble quickly. After learning about the client’s driving habits and preferred routes, we designed a speeding ticket prevention solution tailored to their needs.
Escort Radar Detector
The protection system’s core is an Escort Redline Ci 360c radar detector and laser defense solution. We removed the front bumper cover, allowing our team to mount three laser shifters in the front grille. Two shifters sit high beside the headlights, while the third is mounted as low as possible in the center of the grille, just above the license plate. These locations provide maximum protection to the headlights and front plate, which are common police radar targets.
While working on the front of the vehicle, we installed the radar receiver module under the front bumper support. The Range Rover’s height ensures this low mounting position offers excellent range and signal detection sensitivity.
Custom Laser Shifter Mounts
Our fabrication team created 3D-printed pods to house the rear laser shifters. After printing, we sanded, primed, and painted the pods, then added clear plastic lenses to ensure optimal infrared signal transmission. These pods were mounted just above the license plate, creating a clean and professional look. All wiring was concealed within the stock harness channels for protection and durability.
Interior Component Installation
Next, we installed the display for the Redline Ci 360c and the system controller. Using our laser printer, we created a custom pod for the display, which is now mounted to the overhead console for easy visibility when the system detects a signal.
The system controller was installed in the center console, positioned just to the left of the USB charging port. With the console cover closed, the controls remain entirely hidden from view.
Baltimore’s Radar Detector Experts
Completing the installation took two days, but the effort to seamlessly integrate the radar detection system was worth it. After finishing the setup, we performed our standard road test to ensure proper detection of police radar and LIDAR guns. When the client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound, we provided a thorough walkthrough of the installation and explained how to use the laser defense system effectively. The client was thrilled with the results.
