A client from Baltimore recently contacted the truck accessory experts here at Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading the lighting on his 2021 Ford F-250. He wanted a solution that would provide excellent long-distance illumination and good lighting for the sides of the road. The client also wanted lights for the rear of the vehicle. After inspecting the truck and doing a little research, we put together a proposal that would deliver the performance he was after.
Baja Designs Linkable LED Lighting
For the front of the truck, we proposed the Baja Designs 7 XL Linkable light kit. This system features seven LED light pods that are connected with custom brackets. The pods include three XL Sport Spot pods with a narrow six-degree beam pattern and 3,150 lumens per pod to deliver light beyond a quarter mile. These lights are mounted in the center of the assembly and are aimed directly forward. The fourth and fifth pods are XL Sport Driving/Combo lights. These assemblies have two LED bulbs in the six-degree High-Speed Spot configuration and two that cast light over a 44-degree flat beam to illuminate the sides of the road. The last two lights are XL Sport Wide Cornering lights with all four LED assemblies configured to provide the wide 44-degree beam pattern.
The XL Linkable light kit includes mounting brackets designed specifically for the front bumper of 2020 and newer Ford Super Duty trucks. Next, we wired the lights into the factory upfitter switches in the overhead console.
Rigid Industries Diffused Rear Lighting
Our team installed a pair of Rigid Industries D-Series diffused beam lights underneath the truck’s rear bumper. These lights provide a flood of light to make connecting a trailer or working behind the vehicle in the dark easier and safer. The rear lights are connected to switch two in the upfitter panel.
