It’s fitting that Spider-Man popularized the saying, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Our new 2023 Porsche Spyder has 404 horsepower and can sprint to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. Just a moment too long on the throttle and the police will be knocking on our back door. We designed a custom Porsche radar detector and laser defense system to avoid unscheduled conversations with law enforcement representatives. Let’s check out what we came up with.
Escort Custom Integrated Radar Detector
An Escort Redline Ci 360c is at the heart of our plan to protect the Spyder. This system includes dedicated front and rear radar receivers. It also comes with five laser shifters to guard against police lidar guns. We started the integration process by removing the Spyder’s front and rear bumper covers. Once the covers were off, our technicians found safe and secure mounting locations for the DSP-based radar receiver modules.
Police Lidar Protection
To prevent police officers from measuring the vehicle’s speed with lidar, we used three laser shifters on the front and two on the rear. Our technicians ran the wiring for the radar antenna and the laser shifters from their mounting locations to the control module under the dash. All the wiring follows the same path the factory-installed Porsche wiring uses, so we know it will be safe and protected.
We reinstalled the bumper and mounted the three VX-Series laser shifters in the lower grilles. There’s a unit just below the license plate in the center and one at the top of each outer air intake. The shifters are aligned with the vehicle’s centerline and are parallel with the ground to provide the best sensitivity and range possible.
Control Panel and Display Integration
Our team created a custom mounting panel for the radar detector display and control panel in the center console. We wrapped the panel in black leather-textured vinyl to make it look classy. When the cover is closed, the entire installation is invisible. We also mounted the GPS antenna that the system uses to help prevent false alarms.
