Harley Electraglide Audio Upgrade Retains Factory Look

A client from Westminster, Maryland, came to WSS Westminster Speed & Sound looking to upgrade the audio system on his 2000 Harley Electraglide. We spent some time getting to know him and heard thoughts from him similar to what we often hear from Harley riders. He said the sound quality was poor, and he couldn’t hear it when he was riding up the road. We suggested adding an amplifier and a new set of larger speakers, and he liked our idea, so we set an installation date to do the work.

Factory Radio Sends Audio Signals To Arc Audio Amplifier

We often leave the factory Harley radio in the dash if it is working properly, and this one was fine, so we kept it. We installed an Arc Audio KS125.2 mini amplifier, which is one of our personal favorites. It fits nicely on top of the factory radio and does not interfere with the fairing. One of the reasons we like this amplifier so much is its sound quality and reliability. Nowadays, many companies make amplifiers for motorcycles, and most of them are pretty low quality. The Arc amplifier is truly a step above in sound quality and output. If you want to make your bike jam, an Arc amp should be on your short list to consider.

Hertz Speakers Overpower Wind And Road Noise

The factory speaker was as cheap as they come.

The much beefier Hertz speaker has what it takes to power over the wind and road noise.

When it came time for speakers, we chose the Hertz DCX165.3 as they are very efficient and have a bright sound. When you are riding up the road, the wind noise will dull the sound of your music, so having a brighter speaker is a good thing. We also used speaker adapters in this install so we could upgrade the bike from the stock 5.25” speakers to larger 6.5” models. The reason for using larger speakers is the ability to get more sound so you can hear your music better at speed.

Stock Looking With Much Improved Sound

One of the design goals for this audio upgrade was keeping the bike looking completely stock, and we think we succeeded! If you look at the pictures, you would never know it has a great sound system in it now.

The customer was pleased with the outcome, and that is music to our ears.
