A client from Finksburg recently contacted our team here at Westminster Speed and Sound about upgrading the stereo system in his 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD 3500. Work trucks are notorious for having very basic sound systems. They’re fine for listening to the news or weather, but they’re no fun for music.
As the client spends a lot of time in the vehicle each day, he wanted something that would sound good at higher volumes and deliver solid bass output. After looking over the truck and discussing the available options, we put together the system you see here. Let’s look at what we created.
Silverado HD Speaker Upgrade
The upgrade plan for this Silverado HD 3500 takes a three-pronged approach. First, we upgraded the factory speakers. The front doors and dash are now home to a set of Helix i3-Series 6.5-inch woofers and matching 0.75-inch tweeters. The team used our CNC laser to cut mounting adapters to put the tweeters in the dash. To maximize the woofers’ performance, we added SoundShield Contour closed-cell foam around the speakers, sealing them perfectly to the door panels.
Work Truck Subwoofer System
The second part of the plan was to install a subwoofer system in the truck. We mounted a pair of Helix 10-inch slim subwoofers in an enclosure designed specifically for heavy-duty Silverado trucks. The enclosure mounts to the truck’s back wall, leaving space in the center for a lunch box, tools or supplies.

Wavtech System Amplifier
The last step in making this Silverado sound amazing was to install a Wavtech link1000.5plus five-channel amplifier under the seat. This impressive amplifier delivers up to 75 watts to the four main channels and 500 watts to the pair of subwoofers.
We set the amp up in what’s called an active configuration. Two amplifier channels power the tweeters, two power the woofers in the doors, and the subwoofer channel powers the 10-inch subs. The amp has all the crossovers we need to handle frequency filtering, ensuring the system sounds great.

Maryland’s Truck Stereo Experts
It took a full day to complete the upgrade on this Silverado HD, and the results were well worth the time investment. The client loves that the system is precise and detailed, plays loudly without breaking up, and delivers excellent bass.
