A client from Manchester came to Westminster Speed and Sound with his 2016 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack, looking to add some bass to his stereo system. One of our team looked over the vehicle with the client and determined that this car had the premium sound system installed.
After discussing some different ideas, the client decided to have us use one of the JL Audio SB-D-CHLGR/12W3v3 Stealthboxes that is custom-fit for this Challenger. As you can see in the pictures, it fits perfectly into the rear driver’s side corner of the trunk, so we bolted it into place. The enclosure itself is made of fiberglass and houses one of JL Audio’s 12W3 subwoofers.
When it came time to choose power, we went back to JL Audio, choosing the XD600/1v2 amplifier. It supplies an honest 600 watts of power in an extremely small chassis. Our installers mounted it securely in the spare tire well underneath the rear floor in a completely hidden location. We applied HushMat sound-damping material to the whole trunk area to eliminate any possibility of rattling or vibration from the increased bass.
We used a JL Audio FIX-82 processor to get signal from the premium sound system. It allowed us to sum the musical signal coming out of the factory amplifier as well as strip out that equalization that Dodge adds to the music. In simple terms, the FIX-82 gave us the capability to have a high-quality, unmodified musical signal, which resulted in much-better-sounding bass. The icing on the cake was a bass level control knob that we flushed into a convenient spot near the driver, allowing for easy adjustment of how much bass is added to the music.
On the day we finished the car, we were excited to see our client’s expression when we fired it up for the first time. Needless to say, he was all smiles. Now, all his music will have accurate, hard-hitting bass that made the music seem to come alive.
