A client from Glenwood recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to ask about a radar detector and laser defense system for his 2022 Porsche Cayenne GT. We had installed a radar detector on the client’s previous Cayenne Turbo, and he was pleased with our work and the system’s performance. His new Cayenne GT produces at least 630 horsepower, so exceeding the speed limit doesn’t take very long. We suggested one of the Escort Radar MAX CI 360 systems. We described how we could install the display and control panel and where the radar receiver and sensors would be installed. He loved the plan and scheduled an appointment to do the installation.
Porsche Radar Detector Installation
The first step in integrating the Escort MAX Ci 360 was to remove the front and rear bumper covers from this gorgeous Porsche. The system includes dedicated front and rear radar receiver modules. As radar signals can pass through the plastic bumper covers, we mounted the radar units to the support frame on the chassis to ensure that they would be solid and secure.
We routed the wiring for the radar receiver and four laser shifters from the front bumper to the vehicle’s interior. We always follow the path that factory wiring uses whenever possible, as this helps to ensure maximum reliability for the system. Once the bumper was back on the vehicle, we mounted the four shifters inside the grille. We always take the time to ensure that each sensor is aimed directly forward and parallel with the ground so that they will provide the best possible performance.
Radar Information Display and Control
The MAX Ci 360 system comes with a compact OLED display that will let the driver know which speed measurement signal is detected and the direction it’s coming from. We mounted the display in the top-left corner of the windshield, so it was out of his line of sight but still visible when he needed information. Likewise, the system includes a small control panel. Quick and easy access to these buttons is crucial to using the laser shifter system properly. We mounted the controller on the side of the center console, keeping it well within arm’s reach.
Laser Shifter Training Ensures Reliable Protection
Once the installation was finished, we used our police radar and lidar guns to test everything to ensure that it functioned reliably. When the client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up his Cayenne, we reviewed how to execute a proper Jam to Kill procedure so that officers won’t be suspicious if they can’t record a speed reading of his vehicle. He was delighted with our work.
