Escort 9500CI Custom Installed Radar Detector
After going over a few options, we installed an Escort 9500CI radar detector system in his Expedition. The 9500CI system is a work of art. It’s our favorite system available. The 9500CI allows for a list of features and benefits all while remaining discreet and hidden. We installed the sensors and laser shifters behind the grille, the speaker under the driver’s side of the dash, the LED on top of the steering column, and the controller and display in the center console. The only noticeable part was the LED, which stays green when it is turned on and then flashes red when the system is picking up radar.
Laser Shifters Explained
What are laser shifters, you ask? The laser shifters incorporated with the 9500CI allow for the vehicle to basically “shift” out of position, not allowing a speed to be determined. This is different than laser jammers, in that it does not negatively affect any equipment used by the police. It simply does not allow the laser to detect the vehicle and measure its speed.
Adaptive Signal Processing
Another great feature built into the 9500CI is its adaptive signal processing. It has GPS technology enabling it to actively learn its surroundings, effectively reducing the frequency of false alarms. It will determine whether it’s a real threat based on GPS information and frequency. As you drive it will remember certain locations that regularly trip the system and will no longer false. It actually learns as you drive!
DEFENDER® Database Warns of Speed Traps
This custom installed radar detector will notify the driver of any upcoming speed camera and red light cameras based on GPS technology as well. It uses Escort’s DEFENDER® database to accurately pinpoint the locations and give ample response time. The system comes with a 3 year subscription for updates and changes to the database, and then you will have the option of purchasing update plans for the future. The updates are easily done via a USB connection, which we mounted right next to the OBD port in this Expedition. The client can also use the “mark” button on the controller to physically mark a location based on GPS for any known speed traps, or any other locations for which he would like to receive a notification in the future.
