Collision avoidance is a category that gets more popular every year at Westminster Speed & Sound. Since our inception in 1969, we have been committed to offering the finest products and the best-quality installation to our clients. Nowhere is this more evident than in forward collision products. When you decide to invest in a product for your car, truck or SUV, looking for the lower price is a bad idea when lives are at stake. You want to know that whatever you get is going to work.
How Does a Forward Collision System Work?
One of the most popular questions we get is, “How do these things work?” The answer is pretty simple, but the technology is quite substantial. We install a forward-facing camera in the middle of your windshield, up close to the rearview mirror. Then one of our certified collision avoidance technicians calibrates it to your vehicle. We also integrate it with the CAN-BUS network, as well as a few other places, so it can gather information while you are driving. The collision avoidance system takes the information gathered from the camera and the vehicle network, and makes split-second decisions designed to help you avoid an accident.
Alerts You to Lane Drifting
If you start to drift out of your lane while you are driving, your collision avoidance system will give you a visual and audible alert, prompting you to recenter your vehicle in the appropriate lane. We can tell you from firsthand experience of road-testing vehicles after finishing the install that this feature alone will make you safer, and a better driver.
Helps You Keep a Safe Distance from Vehicles in Front of You
Have you ever noticed that you can get too close to a vehicle in front of you and then need to slow down and put some distance between both cars? Imagine what would have happened if the driver in front of you had to slam on the brakes while you were drifting too close. You already know that answer. Our systems allow you to enter a safe distance alert for vehicles in front of you, based on time, not distance.
The idea here is that the distance between vehicles has to be greater at faster speeds. Many people set up their systems for an alert if they get within 2 seconds of the vehicle in front of them. You get a visual alert that goes to an audible alert as you get closer.
Forward Collision Avoidance Warning
Let’s say you are driving along and the driver in front of you slams on the brakes. Wouldn’t it be great if you could be warned so you could avoid a collision? That is exactly what our systems do for you.
Daylight Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection
Our systems can alert you of a pedestrian getting ready to cross in front of you, as well as detect a bicyclist in front of you. It works in daylight conditions and can help you avoid a potentially life-threatening situation.
