A client from Owings Mills MD brought his beautiful 1965 Chevy Nova to us looking for a classic car stereo upgrade. This car was absolutely stunning. He was in the process of restoring the car and had all the interior panels out of it… It was the perfect time to have some fun with the stereo! This client wasn’t looking to go as far in the project as we had in some of our other classic car stereo upgrades, but he still wanted to enjoy good music in his Nova.
Classic Car Stereo Upgrade With No Cutting
First we started with the dash. There was no radio in this car when it was brought to us. The opening had not been cut out for an aftermarket radio, and the client wanted to keep the look of the dash original. We installed a Custom Autosound radio that was a perfect fit. Custom Autosound radios are designed to use the same mounting procedures as the original radios for these classic cars, but are made with modern day technology built into them. There are options for USB, iPod and auxiliary inputs, but this particular client only cared about AM/FM radio. The new radio looked great in the dash, and kept the original look like the client wanted.
Custom Autosound Speakers Mount in Factory Locations
There were no speakers in this car when it got here either. We decided to use the original speaker locations, since this stereo was being designed to look original. The car has two openings for speakers: one in the dash and one in the rear deck. We installed Custom Autosound speakers in the front and rear locations. These speakers are designed as dual voice coil speakers, playing his music in stereo instead of mono like it would have been from the factory. We had to run new speaker wires to each location, which was expected since the original wiring was 49 years old at this point!
Another Happy Client
The fit and finish of this classic car stereo upgrade was exactly what the client was looking for. He was very happy with our work, and even happier that he could finally listen to music while driving his beautiful Nova to car shows! We have done MANY classic car stereo upgrades over the years.
