A client from Westminster, Maryland came to Westminster Speed & Sound looking for several upgrades to his 2012 Toyota Tundra. Our team went out to his vehicle with him and they looked it over together. We listened as he explained his goals for the upgrades and offered our suggestions during the conversation. At that point we took him into the sound room and showed him the equipment that we thought would best fit his needs. Once we saw the equipment that he liked the best, we worked up what we felt was his best solution. He liked our idea, and an installation appointment was made.
We knew from the beginning that he wanted a navigation system, so we installed a Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX unit. It gave him several great features starting with turn by turn navigation. He also gained Apple’s CarPlay, which allows him to safely use many of his iPhone functions by voice control through Siri while driving. We are big fans of the CarPlay software. He also gained Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming, plus a USB port for all of his digital media. As you can see from the pictures, the installed product looks factory equipped as we were able to match the gloss black finish on the dash.
This truck was a base model so it didn’t come with steering wheel mounted audio controls. We added one of our wireless control units to the steering wheel giving him the feature set of a more expensive Tundra.
A backup camera was installed at the top of the rear license plate centered on the vehicle. We like mounting cameras in this location instead of the tailgate so the camera can still function in the event that you need to have the tailgate down to haul larger items in your truck bed. The reverse image is displayed clearly on the touchscreen LCD display on the Pioneer navigation unit in his dash.
When the client came to pick up his Tundra, he loved the fit and finish of the installation. As we sat in his vehicle with him and taught him how to use his equipment he was greatly excited with all of the new features.
