A BMW 325xi is a very versatile vehicle. We have worked on many of them over the years. A client from Baltimore, MD came to us with her 2006 BMW 325xi with a big stereo problem. It wouldn’t make sound at all! The radio turned on but she couldn’t listen to ANYTHING on her commute to and from work! We went right to work diagnosing the problem and coming up with a solution.
Factory Amplifier Is The Culprit
The BMW 325xi has a factory amplifier for the stereo. This was the first place we went while diagnosing the problem. We determined that the amplifier had no output and needed to be replaced. While we were at it, we discussed replacing the front speakers as well, improving the sound quality of her music. She agreed that she wanted it to sound better, and we were able to schedule it so she only needed to leave the car with us for one day. She did not have another vehicle to drive so it was imperative that we complete this project in a timely fashion and give it back to her the same day. Not a problem for the team at WSS!
JL Audio XD600 – Small Footprint / Big Sound
We started by installing a JL Audio XD600/6 amplifier. This amplifier had enough outputs to power the front and rear speakers, as well as the factory subwoofers under each front seat. We used special equipment to integrate the amp beautifully with the original radio that was still in the dash. It was also a great choice for an amp because of its small footprint. We were able to mount the amplifier right were the factory amp was, behind the panel by the rear hatch! This way none of our product or installation was visible. Living in Baltimore city, she was concerned about someone breaking into her vehicle to steal the amp. All concerns vanished when we informed her it could be completely hidden from sight.
German Maestro Speakers Complete This BMW Stereo Upgrade
For the front speakers, the client chose German Maestro Concept separates. The Concept speaker line from German Maestro is a great choice for any vehicle. These speakers are a drastic improvement over factory speakers constructed out of paper. The MegaSphere technology incorporated in the tweeters allows for crystal clear reproduction of your favorite music. She loved the way they sounded and she will be coming back for new rear speakers in the future!
