A client from Finksburg, Maryland, came to Westminster Speed & Sound looking for a backup camera that would allow him to see his fifth wheel hitch in the bed. He owned a beautiful 2012 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD with the Duramax diesel engine. What an incredible truck! This particular vehicle already had a backup camera in the tailgate and an LCD monitor embedded in the rear view mirror.
Our highly skilled technicians were able to install a video switcher on a custom circuit that allowed the driver to switch easily from the factory camera and the new camera mounted below the third brake light, high up on the cab. Now, whenever the need arises to see the fifth wheel hitch, he simply flips a small, easily accessible switch and the image toggles between the view behind him or a view of the bed. We chose a compact camera that is designed to work well in low-light situations, so even hitching up the trailer at night will no longer be a chore. As you can see in the picture, it is barely noticeable.
While we had the truck, the client asked us to install a transportable SiriusXM unit on the dash and integrate it with his stock stereo system. We reused the factory satellite antenna, eliminating the need to have a second antenna outside the vehicle. Adding the transportable system to his truck allows him to have only one subscription, saving him in monthly fees.
