A client from Charles Town recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound motorcycle audio upgrade experts to inquire about improving the sound system on his 2020 Road Glide. We’ve worked on several of these cruisers before, so we had a few options ready to offer the client. He chose a radio, amplifier and speaker upgrade package that uses Cicada Audio, Soundstream and Infinity products.
Harley-Davidson Radio Replacement
The first order of business after removing the stock radio and fairing speakers was to install a Soundstream Reserve V2 radio. This new radio features a stunning 8.4-inch color touchscreen display and is designed to drop right into the fairing with no modifications. The radio adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing the client to get navigation instructions or select music using voice commands.
We used an iDatalink Maestro RR interface to allow the new radio to communicate with the bike, including the handlebar-mounted audio controls.
DSP-Equipped Amplifier Upgrade
Once the amp was in place, we set to work installing a Cicada Audio DSP600.4D amplifier. This four-channel amplifier includes a powerful digital signal processor that we will use at the end of the installation to fine-tune the system. We set the crossovers and then equalized the output of each speaker to deliver a smooth, natural sound at the rider position.
The amp is mounted on a Cicada Audio-supplied bracket that locates it above the radio in the fairing. We used an HDPRO4K wiring kit to ensure the amp receives maximum power from the bike’s battery and charging system.
Harley-Davidson 2020 Road Glide Speakers
The next-to-last step of the installation was to upgrade the speakers. We replaced the stock speakers in the front fairing with a set of Infinity Perfect 600X coaxial units. These speakers are designed to drop right into the original locations without modification.
For rear speakers, the client chose the Infinity Perfect 900X 6×9 speaker kit. This kit includes a cutting template that allows us to modify the bag lids to make a home for the kit’s grilles. The Cicada Audio amp installation kit includes wiring provisions for rear speakers.
