Audio System and Lighting Upgrades for Sykesville Jeep Wrangler

The owner of this 2016 Jeep Wrangler traveled from Sykesville to see the team at Westminster Speed and Sound for a stereo system and lighting upgrade. The client wasn’t impressed with the sound of the factory-installed speakers. He also wanted us to upgrade the headlights and fog lights. After discussing his expectations for the upgrades, we proposed a package that would fulfill his requests and work with his budget.

Wrangler Unlimited Audio Upgrade Package

For the last few years, Alpine Electronics has been working steadily to provide Jeep owners with a multitude of application-specific upgrade solutions. We proposed the Alpine PSS-22WRA Direct Fit Sound System for 2011 through 2018 JK Unlimited Wranglers. The kit includes four new speakers with tweeters, a subwoofer enclosure, a pair of amplifiers and a mounting bracket for the amps to mount them under the seat. All of the audio components carry an IP55 water and dust intrusion rating.

Our team started by removing the factory-installed speakers from the overhead soundbar and the speaker pods from the dash of the vehicle. The new Alpine SPV-65X-WRA speakers bolt in place using the factory fastener locations. Alpine includes mounting adapters for the tweeters, so they fill the space where the 2-inch midrange speakers were mounted.

Under-Seat Jeep Subwoofer Upgrade

The next step was to unbolt the passenger seat from the floor of the Jeep so that we could mount the SBV-10-WRA subwoofer enclosure. Alpine designed the subwoofer system with a single 10-inch woofer to provide a great balance of low-frequency extension and output. The under-seat location helps to ensure that the system sounds great even when the roof is off.

Weather-Resistant Off-Road Amplifiers

The last step was to mount the pair of Power Pack amplifiers under the driver’s seat using the provided metal bracket. A four-channel KTA-30FW amp provides up to 75 watts of power to each of the four speaker sets in the vehicle. A matching KTA-30MW provides as much as 300 watts of power to the subwoofer.

Jeep Lighting Upgrade

To accommodate the client’s request for better lighting, we replaced the headlights and fog lights with new units from J.W. Speaker. We installed and aimed a set of Model 8700 Evolution J2 projector headlights that are D.O.T. compliant. We mated them with Model 6145 J2 Series LED fog lights. All four assemblies bolt directly into the factory mounting locations.

With the audio system dialed-in and the lighting tested, we called the client to let him know his Wrangler was ready to go. He was thrilled with the new sound system and loved the lighting.
