2020 Jeep Wrangler Stereo Upgrade for Hampstead Enthusiast

The owner of this cool 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited drove over from Hampstead to discuss an audio system upgrade with the team here at Westminster Speed and Sound. Jeep has made some unconventional decisions with the audio system design in the new JL-chassis Wranglers. Sadly, owners aren’t thrilled with the performance of the audio systems. For this Wrangler Sahara, the client chose new speakers from BLAM, an amplifier from Match and a JL Audio subwoofer enclosure to bring things back into line with her expectations.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Front Speaker Upgrade

There is a huge difference between the factory speaker and the BLAM upgrade.

Our crafty technicians were able to squeeze the woofer into the factory mount.

The BLAM tweeters were installed in the factory dash location.

The new front speakers drastically improve the sound in this Jeep.

The audio system upgrade plan includes a set of BLAM 165RS Relax-Series 6.5-inch component speakers. We mounted the woofers from the component set in a set of upgraded enclosures that bolt directly to the dash structure using the same fastener locations as the original speaker pods. The tweeters from the set are mounted on custom brackets in the upper dash speaker location at the base of the windshield.

JL Wrangler Subwoofer System

The Stealthbox was created using design cues from the Jeep interior.

The single JL Audio subwoofer provided plenty of bass.

We were able to squeeze the new amplifier under the seat.

The factory radio was the source for the new audio system.

Next on the work order was the installation of a Jeep-specific subwoofer system. The client chose one of the JL Audio SB-J-JL4DDRV/10TW1-2 Stealthbox enclosures that fit over the wheel well, just behind the rear seat on the driver’s side of the vehicle. JL Audio created this enclosure to provide excellent bass output without taking up any cargo space or affecting the functionality of the soft top. The enclosure includes a single 10-inch 10TW1-2 subwoofer and a front trim panel that mimics the iconic seven vertical slots in the front grille of the vehicle.

To power the subwoofer enclosure, we mounted a Helix M ONE monoblock amplifier under the driver’s seat. We spaced the amp off the floor to help ensure it stays dry if the Jeep gets caught in the rain with the roof open. The amp is rated to produce up to 600 watts of power and can drive a second Stealthbox enclosure on the passenger side of the vehicle, should the client want more bass.

Our technicians mounted a remote level control for the M ONE amp just in front of the shifter so the vehicle owner can fine-tune the bass level to whatever music she is enjoying.

With the equipment installed and the settings on the amp configured so that the output of the sub blends perfectly with the dash speakers, we let the client know she could return to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up her Jeep Wrangler. She was thrilled with the upgrade and loved our neat and tidy installation.
