2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Custom-Installed Laser And Radar System

A repeat client with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee contacted Westminster Speed & Sound about adding a custom-installed laser and radar detector to his vehicle. We had previously installed our Dark Matter window film on the side and rear windows, along with our clear film on the windshield. This combination gave him 360 degrees of protection from the sun’s damaging UV rays plus a dramatic reduction in heat during those hot summer months.

In our typical fashion, we talked with the client about his goals for the upgrades and offered our suggestions, gained from doing custom-installed radar for decades. At the end of the discussion, we worked up a proposal that we felt best fit his needs that he liked. He approved, so we set a time to begin working on his Jeep.

K40 RL360i – Best Fit for this Client

In this Grand Cherokee, the K40 RL360i system was a logical choice. It combines a front and rear radar receiver, giving the driver the ultimate in protection from radar-based speed traps. When you have a system with front and rear receivers, it makes you a smarter driver. Consider this scenario: You are driving up the road and your radar detector starts to go off. The intensity of the alert increases as you get closer to the trap and then starts to diminish as you go by. A little while later, the intensity starts to build again and you realize that you have rolled into a second speed trap and were just caught.

If you had front and rear detection, the front alert would have gone to a rear alert as you drove past. Then, when it started picking up a second trap in front of you, the front alert would have gone off again, alerting you to keep your speed down.

Dual G5 Laser Defusers Installed Upfront

One of the greatest attributes of a custom-installed laser and radar detector is the ability to not only detect laser but actually defuse it. Portable detectors can only detect laser being shot at your vehicle, and at that point, it is too late. Consider it a notification that you are about to get a ticket. When you upgrade to a K40 custom system, the laser defusers fire back powerful beams of light at the laser gun, preventing them from getting a reading on your vehicle. Now, you can slow down and avoid a ticket. We mounted the two front G5 laser defusers inconspicuously in the lower grille, perfectly aimed at the road ahead.

An Installation Designed to Look Factory-installed

The front radar receiver was tucked away behind the front bumper.

The rear radar receiver was securely mounted using composite leveling blocks.

We solder all of our connections and apply protective heat shrink for the ultimate in reliability. Each sensor is securely mounted to the vehicle – no Velcro or double-sided tape will do for our clients. We have seen too many installations that cut corners to get a job done quickly.

Interior Alert Indicators Mounted in Easy View of Driver

At this point, it was time to focus our attention on the inside of the vehicle. We mounted the front and rear indicator lights near the gauge cluster in easy view of the driver. The left indicator indicates a front alert and the right indicator indicates a rear alert. A hidden speaker announces the presence of laser or radar, and helps the driver navigate through any menu settings. An included RF-based remote control is an easy way to make changes to the system and gets stored in the center console when not being used.
