A client from Reisterstown, Maryland, came to Westminster Speed & Sound for some 2013 Mercedes Benz E350 upgrades. After getting to know the client better and looking over the vehicle together, we realized that he had three major upgrades in mind. He wanted to tint the windows, install a remote starter and upgrade his headlights to HID. We worked up a proposal for the client that he liked, so we set him up for an installation appointment.
As you can imagine, working on a modern Mercedes is a lot different from working on a Honda or Toyota. The client came to us based on our reputation for quality work on European vehicles and welcomed the opportunity to meet us in advance, so he could be comfortable with letting us work on his vehicle. That meant a lot to us, since we appreciate people that are particular about their vehicles.
Lighting Upgrade Increases Night-Time Safety
This particular Mercedes was unique in that it was a 2013 model, but did not come with LED headlights, but rather with normal incandescent bulbs, which gave him poor night-time visibility. Our team researched the vehicle and found that it had 2012 headlights, so we installed RaceSport G4 HID kits in 5000 k in both the low-beam and high positions. We loomed all of our wiring properly, mounted the ballasts securely and used dielectric grease on all of the connections for the utmost in reliability. We never use the headlight harness for power, instead installing relay harnesses that draw power for the lights directly from the battery. This is another step we take to ensure reliability and performance.
Unlimited Range Remote Start System
When it came time to install a remote starter, we chose a Compustar system along with the Slice Jr. two-way remote control and the DroneMobile smartphone system. Going this route allowed the client to remote start the vehicle, control the keyless entry and track the location, all from the convenience of his smartphone. In the event he doesn’t have his phone, the Slice Jr. gives him a backup way to use the system.
As you can imagine, installing a remote starter in a Mercedes is serious business, but the staff at Westminster Speed & Sound has almost 50 combined years of installing them, so we are up to the challenge.
Increased Protection And Great Looks From Dark Matter Window Film
For the finishing touch on this project, we installed our flagship Dark Matter window film on his E350, giving him protection from the sun’s damaging UV rays, along with a 60% reduction in heat coming in through the glass. As you can see in the pictures, it also gave the car a classy, understated look.
