A gentleman from Baltimore was on his way to visit our shop when he ran into one of our clients at a local gas station. We’d just finished an audio upgrade on the client’s bike, and he was playing it at a good volume. The gentleman asked who did the audio upgrade and was told Westminster Speed and Sound. Even before we met the new client, he was excited to have us work on his 2017 Harley-Davidson Street Glide.
Upon his arrival at the shop, we talked to the owner of this stunning bike about his goals for the audio upgrade. We finished the interview process by reviewing the bike and examining the existing system to ensure our proposals could be executed flawlessly. We offered a few options and let the owner pick the performance level he wanted. Not shy about his goals for clear and loud sound, he chose our premium solution. We scheduled an appointment to begin the audio transformation.
Cicada Audio Harley-Davidson Audio Upgrade
All the equipment we’d be installing on the Street Glide comes from Cicada Audio. We began the project by removing the fairing speakers to make way for a set of CM652 midwoofers. We replaced the grilles with new units that house a set of matching RR075T 0.75-inch tweeters.
Next, we turned our attention to the rear of the bike to begin installing new bag-lid speakers. The bike already had an aftermarket speaker kit installed, and we didn’t want to alter what was already done. So, we installed a set of CM692 6×9 midwoofers and added CHD69TB tweeter bridges to hold a second set of RR075T tweeters.
Harley-Davidson Stereo System Amplification
With the high-efficiency speakers installed, it was time to upgrade the amplifier. We used a Cicada mounting plate to locate an FLX700.4PRO four-channel amp under the fairing, just above the factory radio. This amp can produce 175 watts of power per channel. We used an HDFLXPRO4K installation kit to efficiently deliver power to the amplifier.
The real icing on the cake for this upgrade is that the amplifier includes a six-channel digital signal processor. We used that processor, along with our RTA microphone, to measure the acoustic response of each speaker at the listening position. We adjusted the system to match our target curve so that any type of music will sound amazing.

It took us a couple of days to finish the sound system and the DSP calibration. The client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up the bike and hopped on for a listen. He was smiling from ear to ear as he turned the volume up higher and higher. This was exactly what he wanted!
