The Catonsville-based Porsche Cayenne owner recently returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about a radar detector system for her 2026 Porsche Cayenne. We’ve worked with this client before, so she was familiar with our installation processes and attention to detail. After inspecting the SUV, we presented a proposal that she approved. A time was then scheduled to begin work on the speeding ticket defense system.
Uniden Radar Detector Installation
The plan was to install a Uniden R9W-180 radar detector and laser defense system in this 2026 Porsche Cayenne. The team began by installing the radar receiver module on the front aluminum bumper support. This unit can detect high-frequency radar signals through the plastic bumper, so the module can be completely hidden.
Next, we created mounting solutions for three laser defusers. Two of the units are mounted in 3D-printed pods we created for the upper corners of the front grille. A third laser unit is mounted to a Lexan extension added to the bottom of the front license plate. The defusers are all installed parallel to the ground to ensure maximum range and detection sensitivity. All the wiring is routed to avoid heat sources, and quick-connect plugs allow the bumpers to be removed should the vehicle need service.
Display and Control Panel Installation
With the brain of the system mounted up behind the dash, our team turned their attention to the OLED display and the control panel. We 3D-printed a pod for the display, and it sits just in front of the instrument cluster on the dash. The controller is mounted on a bracket on the left side of the dash, near the door. This makes it easy to access when cancelling the laser defense signal or muting a warning. Thanks to a GPS receiver antenna, the client can mark the location of false alarms so they don’t interrupt the drive.

Once the system was installed, we used our police radar and laser guns to test it and ensure reliable operation. The owner returned to Westminster Speed and Sound so we could review how to use the system. She was thrilled with the installation!
