A local client recently dropped in to Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about upgrading the stereo in his 2025 GMC Sierra HD Denali. He didn’t like the way the Bose system sounded and wanted much better bass output. However, he didn’t want to sacrifice any of the storage space under the rear seat. After inspecting the vehicle, we prepared a proposal for a stereo upgrade to meet his expectations.
GMC Sierra Stereo System Speakers
The key to delivering what the client wanted started with replacing all the speakers in the Sierra. In the dash, we installed a set of BLAM Signature 2-inch wideband speakers. We mounted a set of Helix i7 0.75-inch tweeters using their angled mounting pods on the door sail panels. Next, we removed the 6×9 woofers from the lower part of the doors and created a set of mounting adapters for Helix Compose i5 subwoofers. Lastly, we upgraded the rear door speakers with a set of Helix i3 coaxial drivers on another set of custom expanded PVC mounting adapters.
While the doors were apart, we treated the outer metal door skin and inner trim panel with Hushmat sound deadening material. We added a layer of SoundShield triple-layer deadening material to the inner door skin to prevent buzzes and rattles. We finished the Stage Three deadening treatment with SoundShield Contour foam rings around all the door speakers.
DSP Amplifier Provides Complete System Control
To ensure the system performs at its best, we installed a Match UP10DSP 10-channel amplifier and PAC digital preamp on the back wall of the truck. We used the PAC AP4-GM71 AmpPro interface to extract a clean audio signal from the factory radio. We upgraded the interface with an APATOS1 Toslink fiber optic interface so we could run a digital signal into the Match amplifier.
The digital signal processor in the Match amplifier handles crossover, signal delays, and equalization for each speaker in the system. We used our RTA microphone to handle the frequency response measurements during the system calibration process. Our team installed a remote level control for the subwoofer channels in the left-hand pocket of the center console. The client can dial in the bass level to suit his mood or choice of music.

Once the system was configured and calibrated and all the trim panels were back in place, it was time for the client to return to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up his vehicle. He hopped in for a listen and immediately noted how much more solid the doors felt thanks to the sound deadening. The music was full and rich, and the bass was deep and punchy, just the way the client wanted. He was smiling from ear to ear.
